 It’s a day to celebrate how far women have come in all spheres of life. We have 2 themes : “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.” and “Choose to Challenge”.

From our very own Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala being the very first African woman heading the World Trade Organization, to the very first female African-American Vice President of America to Dr Eleanor Nwadinobi the first Nigerian President of the Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA) to Dr Mary Agu, the first female rheumatologist in Africa to our own Prof Obehi Akoria, the first female DCMAC of UBTH to our own Dr Edith Kayode-Iyasere the first Female CMD of Central hospital, to our own Dr Olabisi Ihenyen the first female CMD of Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Uselu to our own Dr. Stephania Udi Ighedosa the first female Edo NMA chairman to our own Mwan Edo President Dr Adesuwa Urhoghide-Edigin who is the first Dental President in 40years and was also the first female VP of ARD SHMB to our own Mwan Edo secretary Dr Nkemdilim Okonji who is a urologist and is in a field perceived to be for men. We can go on and on with women breaking barriers as small as it may seem. Women are boldly setting out to #ChooseToChallenge

MWAN Edo is saying we *#ChooseToChallenge* gender inequality, gender bias and stereotyping as well as gender based violence in our world.

We celebrate all women forging a clear path to excellence by sheer dint of hard work in all fields and spheres of life.
