The Medical Women Association of Nigeria(MWAN), Edo Branch, has appealed to women to make regular checkups their priority, even as they (women) celebrate this year’s International Women Day.

Dr Ehi Isa, President of MWAN, Edo Branch, who made the appeal in Benin on Tuesday during an interview with newsmen, advised women to always eat a diet focused on fruits, vegetables, fiber and protein.

“Many women fall into the habit of taking care of others’ health and wellness needs before they take care of their own. (Sic)

“You are a woman, and you are in a better position to provide care for the people most important to you when you make your own healthcare a top priority.

“Without a healthy life, you cannot function well as a woman,” she said.

The MWAN President used the International Women Day to celebrate its members recently appointed and promoted to esteemed positions in the state.

She said the women recently promoted deserved the position.

Isa listed the women as: Prof Obehi Akoria (the Commissioner for Health) and a distinguished Past secretary of MWAN Edo, Dr Edith Iyasere (Past President of MWAN), who was recently appointed as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health.

“It is note worthy that Dr Edith Iyasere is the first female Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health of Edo state”.

“To the celebrants this is our way of identifying with you and a call to support you in you endeavours.

“We believe that when you succeed it definitely would rob off on every Medical woman in Edo state”, she said.

On her part, Dr Adesuwa Urhoghide-Edigin, immediate past President of MWAN, Edo, said breaking the bias starts with women.

“We can make progress and change this country if we all put our hands together to do so…

“Nothing can stop a woman on a mission if she means business and truly has the support of all women

“Charity begins at home. The men would do better when we do well to ourselves”,she said.
